Food, Waste and Climate Workshop Series

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

How we grow, distribute and dispose of our food has an impact on the health of the planet. Food, Waste and Climate is a three-part series that explores the intersection of food and waste with the fight agaist the climate crisis.

We kicked off our three part series on October 16, World Food Day, with a workshop focused on what makes a food system sustainable and why it is so important for our own food security and the health of our planet. Globally, we produce enough food to feed 1.5X the population of the world. Yet many are hungry, massive amounts of food goes to waste and our environment is harmed from unsustainable food production practices. With existing solutions, we have the ability to solve so many big problems!

Upcoming Workshops

We look forward to seeing you at the next workshops in the series!

WASTE - November 13, 10:20-11:00am or 3:20-4:00pm

If food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases behind China and the U.S., according to the World Resources Institute. In recognition of America Recycles Day on November 15, this workshop looks beyond the usual paper, metal, plastic and glass recycling streams to ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle food to support a sustainable food system, increase food security and divert organic materials from landfill.

CLIMATE - December 4, 10:20-11:00am or 3:20-4:00pm

One day before World Soils Day (12/5), the final workshop in the Food, Waste and Climate series takes a look at how we can turn food waste into compost to build healthy soils that fight climate change.
